Director, A&D Sales - Business Development

About the Role:

The Director, Business Development will lead the outbound selling efforts for brands in our Decorative Finishes portfolio (Trueform Concrete, American Tin Ceilings, Reggio Registers, Baseboarders). They will execute outbound sales efforts focused on the Architect and Design (A&D) community. This position is less project management, more sales-driver.

  • Location: Remote. Up to 30% travel required. Please note: Candidates should be based in New York City metropolitan area or Chicagoland area.
  • Reports to: General Manager @ Renovation Brands.
  • Management / Supervisory Authority: none
  • Compensation: Base PLUS Uncapped Commission. Total projected compensation range of $170,000 - $200,000 annually. (YOY sales growth criteria.)


  • Develop and execute outbound lead generation sales strategies to achieve annual sales goals.
  • Drive incremental business to meet and exceed the Company’s annual sales and profit objectives.
  • Develop a Funnel program to identify and follow-up on A&D leads. Execute outbound sales efforts with a proactive sales development mentality.
  • Identify key influencers and decision makers to drive awareness and sales of Renovation Brands products.
  • Establish and maintain relationships with industry influencers and key strategic market influencers (architects, engineers, designers, property managers, developers, strategic partnerships…)
  • Identify potential sales channels and develop partnerships to support business strategy.
  • Actively engage sales team in all sales opportunities uncovered and provide ongoing support to the process with in-person, virtual, phone, and email support.
  • Consistently meet with potential and key clients at their offices and on job sites. Assist sales representatives with maintaining & growing relationships, including supporting the negotiation and closing of sales.
  • Exercise sound judgment to achieve sales of the Company’s product, driving awareness and specification.
  • Meet consistently with company leadership to ensure executional excellence and continuous improvement.
  • Present to leadership and sales team a business plan detailing quarterly objectives, key targets, and strategies to build relationships with accounts.
  • Align needed investments & expenses to drive company sales efforts and programs.
  • Update, maintain. and utilize Sales Reporting Dashboards in Salesforce and NetSuite. Report on KPIs and develop action plans to drive continuous improvement.
  • Perform sales administrative duties including but not limited to, conducting phone calls, emailing, internet research, assisting clients with placing online and custom orders, working with the project management and fabrication teams to successfully transfer projects to the next phase, working with the estimating team to provide clients with estimates in a timely fashion, preparing contracts and invoices, processing and recording payments, etc.
  • Consistently maintain accurate travel & entertainment records in a responsible manner.

Additional Responsibilities:

Marketing Participation

  • Present continuing education units (CEUs) to industry experts, building brand awareness and driving sales.
  • Work with the Marketing department to recommend Trade Pro outreach and industry event participation throughout the year.
  • Represent Company at trade association meetings (e.g., AIA, ASID, NKBA, DPHA, etc.), trade shows, and other events to promote our brands and products.
  • Collaborate with leadership to provide input into marketing and promotion activities to drive sales.
  • Communicate results of sales-led initiatives (i.e., trade/industry events, etc.) to further optimize future participation and justify the expense.

Cross-Functional Coordination

  • Provide feedback into marketing, product, and design departments to help inform adjustments to marketing strategy and product roadmap to meet changing market and competitive conditions.
  • Provide competitive assessments and recommendations to grow market share.
  • Give input to marketing collateral, product spec sheets, and other material required to support sales.
  • Monitor competitor pricing and propose price adjustments to maximize profitable sales growth.

Qualifications & Skills:

  • Education: bachelor’s degree (B.S./B.A.) in Business or other related field.
  • Experience: 5+ years in commercial sales for home and building products.
  • Cooperative team player with an upbeat, positive, “can-do” approach.
  • Possess a book of business from previous experience.
  • Advanced skills in Excel.
  • Proven experience with Salesforce, NetSuite, or similar.
  • Experience with Power BI a plus.
  • Ability to work quickly and independently, with high attention to detail.
  • Ability to think critically to create hypothesis driven design solutions based on real business problems.
  • Excellent organization and communication skills.
  • Highly driven and self-motivated.
